Reduce Your Use Days is the Demand Response Program offered by San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E). You will be notified by text, email or automated phone call the day before. Save enough electricity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on a Reduce Your UseSM Rewards day and you’ll earn a credit on your SDG&E bill.
Generally, Reduce Your Use days are called when hot weather strains SDG &E system. The number of Reduce Your Use days that may be called is not limited. They may also be called any time an unusual situation requires saving energy.
Earn bill credit of $0.75 per kWh if you use less than the average three highest use days during the five days prior to the event day. Earn $1.25 per kWh if your savings are enabled with SDG& E approved devices.
Following are some tips to help you reduce your energy consumption on SmartDays and other days of the year.
1. Pre-cool your home.Allow cool air from the morning or night to flow into your home. As the temperature rises outside, circulate the pre-cooled air with a fan.
2. Shift your chores. Perform household chores that require power-hungry appliances before 2 p.m. or after 7 p.m. Examples include clothes washers, dishwashers, pool pumps and vacuums.
3. Program your air conditioner (AC). Set the AC to turn on after 7 p.m. if you use a programmable thermostat.
4. Reduce non-essential lighting. Reduce or turn off lighting in non-essential areas. Consider a motion sensor in areas you use less ofte
